Assistive technology

Any tool that helps a person with a disability use digital products: screen reader, magnifier, switch device, voice recognition.

Assistive technologies include screen readers, screen magnifiers, adapted keyboards, switch devices and voice recognition. They rely on the page code to work.

An accessible site is designed to cooperate with these technologies. That is the meaning of the WCAG robustness principle: content must remain interpretable by a wide variety of tools.
