PrestaShop

PrestaShop powers a large share of French e-commerce. Its strength is its flexibility: everything can be modified. That is also its risk, because every module adds its own interface to the site.

A typical PrestaShop store combines a theme, often bought then customised, and a collection of modules from different publishers. Each brings its own popups, carousels and forms: the accessibility of the whole depends on the weakest link.

The typical sensitive spots

• Old themes, inherited from previous versions, accumulate dated markup, removed focus outlines and weak contrast. The recent default theme offers a better semantic base.
• Popup, reassurance and review modules inject interfaces that are rarely keyboard operable.
• Product images: an alt text field exists per image in the back office, but often stays empty or filled with the file name.
• Fake buttons: clickable links or blocks with no role and no perceivable text, frequent in customised themes.

Where to fix things concretely

• In the back office: text alternatives for product images and category visuals, form field labels.
• In the theme: contrast, focus states and heading hierarchy, with the developer who maintains the store.
• Module by module: disable the problematic ones for a test, then demand fixes or replace them.

What our analyses show

Our 2026 panels included four PrestaShop stores, too few to publish an honest percentage. The raw finding: all four showed at least one serious non-conformity on their homepage. At the scale of French e-commerce across all platforms, our July 2026 study measured 94.5% of the 55 analysed sites with a critical or serious non-conformity.
