Accessibility compliance: the 5-step plan

A clear path from baseline to proof, without an overpriced agency and without an overlay.

Becoming compliant is far from insurmountable when you follow a clear path. Here are the five steps we recommend.

1. Establish a baseline

Scan your site to get a score, the list of problems and their severity. This is the starting picture, essential for prioritising.

2. Prioritise by impact

Tackle critical and serious problems first, especially on key journeys (home, search, purchase, contact). These are the ones that actually block users.

3. Fix at the source

Most fixes involve CSS, ARIA attributes, text alternatives and HTML structure. You fix the code, not a layer on top.

4. Publish an honest statement

Document the conformance status, the content still not accessible and a contact channel. A sincere statement beats a promise of perfection.

5. Monitor over time

Every update can introduce a regression. Automatic monitoring alerts you before the problem becomes visible. Compliance is a state to maintain, not a box to tick once.
