EAA deadlines: 2025 and beyond

The EAA applies since 28 June 2025, but transitional measures exist. An overview of the timeline.

The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025. But the directive also provides transition periods for certain cases, which sometimes creates confusion.

The key date: 28 June 2025

Since that date, products placed on the market and services provided to consumers must meet the accessibility requirements. It is the reference for any new site, service or app.

Transitional measures

The directive allows extra time in certain specific cases, for example for some services relying on products already in use, until 2030, or for self-service terminals put into service before the application date. These transitions are framed and do not remove the need to act.

What to remember

For a consumer-facing website or app, the relevant deadline has already passed: compliance is expected. Waiting for a hypothetical tolerance is risky. The safest move is to establish a baseline now.
